Tyro Expands Processing With Opticard Solutions

The first new entrant into the Australian EFTPOS industry in more than 15 years, Tyro (formerly MoneySwitch) is Australia’s first and only fully independent acquirer. The organization offers an EFTPOS facility processing credit, debit, gift and Medicare cards.

In 2006, Tyro partnered with Opticard to begin processing gift and loyalty cards for its clients. Since the program’s launch, Tyro has built a business processing thousands of gift cards for seven businesses and their multiple locations in Australia and New Zealand.

Tyro uses Banksys terminals and has written its own terminal, switching and settlment applications. Tyro switches gift cared transactions to Opticard via an all-IP connection.

Since implementing Opticard’s solution, Tyro’s business has become more economically friendly, requiring significantly less paper. Furthermore, the cards themselves require less administration and are easy to alter, allowing Tyro to cancel, amend values and refund cards in one action. Opticard has also allowed Tyro to streamline shop payments, as every purchase is automatically redeemed along with the payment to the shop.
